Where and from whom do you find your inspiration?
I am inspired by the humorous, the unusual, and the bold. I love quirk. The late, great Arnold Newman once reviewed my portfolio in college and told me I had a sense of humor in my photography. I consider that the best compliment I’ve ever been paid on my work.

What is your philosophy of community?
The community is responsible for raising the child...

What is success to you?
Artistically, success is being able to make images of my own choosing for a living. On a broader level, it’s the ability to control a positive destiny for myself, my family and the human and planetary systems on which we all depend. So “total success” would be helping to bring about some sort of sustainable relationship between humans and their environment. Achieving this kind of success would require massive personal, political and environmental action and may be impossible. But I like reaching for what seems impossible. Every once in a while I get lucky.
