SEKOU DA MISFIT

Since taking 1st place in the Indviduals at the 2002 National Poetry Slam Competition, Sekou Da Misfit has been very busy. He’s done TV spots including Good Morning America and toured nationally with the “Underground Poet’s Railroad” and “Declare Yourself.” In spite of his new notoriety, Sekou continues to do what he does best—coy gangster in puppy love, with a hint of tortured artist underneath. With dreadlocks, dimples and major writing chops, Sekou completely pulls it off.

His poems are formulaic but devastating, charming and disarming like a killer pick-up line delivered perfectly. The work ranges from gems like, “my little bran muffin, you move me,” to the knee-weakening simplicity of “I write you less now because I live you more.” Every woman in the room sighs.
